”The turbulent present is the needles eye through which an increasingly complex future must pass in order to become the past where everything seemed much simpler.”
In Åsa Lockners exhibition ”If things continue like this, then I don’t know what to do” the tension between random coincidence and the clearly orchestrated reveals the structure of this assertion. Asa Lockner practice has consistently searched for a balanced disharmony, substantial and indeterminate, and until now the results have found their showcase within the jewellery art format. In this latest exhibition ”If Things Continue like This, Then I don’t Know What to Do” we see a significant shift in scale and expansion in range. An obvious link to Lockner’s earlier work can be seen in her visual scope and treatment of the materials she uses. Under her hand metal gets an ambiguous identity through the application of textile qualities, surface treatments that create soft volumes. The exhibition contains a number of brooches that connect the familiar world of jewellery with a series of sculptural objects that relate more loosely to the body. The body which is still present but subordinated to the person and her conscious choice.
